Departments
Pop - Pop is "pop" spelled backwards -- from hardcore punk rawk to happy jangly-pop, to industrial, to everything that the other departments aren't and most of what they are. We're the ones you want to look out for.
Folk - Sometimes family-oriented, but sometimes not. Our folk department plays a blend of international music, folk, folk-rock, blues, zydeco, country, and ska. This ain't dentist's office music, unless of course we were to be your dentist.
Classical - New, improved, exciting, and filled with Moe. We're Beethoven with a buzz-cut, playing J.S. Bach to P.D.Q. What's old is new. What's new is also new!
Jazz/Avant-Garde - The WHRW Jazz/Avant-Garde Department is committed to upholding what John Coltrane believed: "The music has to speak for itself."
Heritage - Urban/Heritage offers music of black heritage such as rhythm and blues, hip-hop, reggae, rap, soul, and a world more!
Radio Patria - Music from the Caribbean, Latin America and the African Diaspora.
Space / RPM - The manipulation of the mind through the creation of soundscapes. Now with more beats.
Radio Theatre - Harkening back to the days of the "golden age" of radio, the Radio Theatre Department keeps alive the most original radio in our society's history: Original radio plays, skits, comedy, and anything involving voices and sound effects.
News - The WHRW News Department is committed to bringing you the news of local, national, and world events, keeping you informed like no one else can.
Sports - The WHRW Sports Department brings you BU Women's Basketball and other on-campus sports events. This is your campus, this are your school's teams, listen to your campus radio station for the best campus sports coverage!
Public Affairs - Serving the public interest with specialty, news, talk, and opinion programming, The Public Affairs Department's programming runs weekdays during the late afternoon and early evening.
Specialty Programming - Programming that literally will not fit in anywhere else is termed "specialty programming," protecting long-running shows on WHRW.
